Encourage responsible dog ownership when out boating

Why - It can be very difficult to know the correct places where dogs are permitted ashore when cruising around New Zealand with a dog on board. Many of the popular places to go boating are also reserves or protected coastlines with strict rules around dog access and control in order to protect wildlife. While pet dogs seem harmless to many owners, they are unfortunately responsible for many kiwi deaths every year, along with those of penguins, dotterel and other coastal species.

How – Provide regular updates and reminders to club members about where they can find out if their dogs are permitted ashore for exercise and toilet stops.

The start of the summer cruising season is a good time to add extra content and information for club members.
